Katy Residents take education seriously, and the community and school district work hand in hand to
provide the best educational opportunities for all KISD residents. As a result, several KISD schools have won the National Recognition Award for Elementary Education, Exemplary Performance Awards, and 11 schools were selected
as Texas Successful Schools by the Texas Education Agency.
Katy ISD students scored well above the state average in their TAAS tests, and their SAT and ACT scores were also well above the state and
national averages. More than 80% of KISD students who graduate, go on to some form of higher education such as college. KISD also features some outstanding special programs such as the Gifted and Talented Program, Vocational
Education, Athletics/Physical Education, Special Education and Alternative Education. Parent participation is welcomed in KISD. Last year 3500 parents volunteered over 90,000 hours in the various schools. Seventy local
businesses also participated in providing help to the schools and children of KISD. Katy students KNOW they're important to their community, and see this in action!
Community education is also an important factor. In the evenings KISD offers a GED program, English as a Second Language, and Adult Basic
Reading. Other enrichment opportunities for adults include creative writing, oil painting, advanced computer courses, sign language, automobile tune-up, sewing and gourmet cooking.
